Idea Institute’s annual picture-book project, which we began in 1997, is now in its twenty-third year.

This year, we are pleased to share with you the final installment of our Olympic trilogy, which began with the stories of Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo, and Kinue Hitomi, the first Japanese female Olympian. This concluding volume introduces the life and times of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympic Games, along with his connections to Japan. As the Tokyo Olympics approach, we invite readers to travel back in time to the origins of the Olympics, and reexamine their significance and historical context.

In addition to Japanese, Coubertin’s story is also presented in English, French, and Simplified Chinese.
